The Problem

Rights do not change as we age, but sadly what does change is older men and women are considered being inherently less valuable to society. At the same time, as people age, we face increasing barriers to our participation, become more dependent on others, and lose some or all of our autonomy. These threats to dignity can make us more susceptible to neglect, abuse, and violation of rights.
The Solution
IDENTIFY – Working with local churches, we identify seniors who have been abused, neglected or abandoned as well as families that are struggling to care for their elderly family members.
ASSESS – Our staff and missionaries visit the homes of people who are struggling to care for a loved one and assess the needs and family dynamics.
EDUCATE – Our educational programs first address the caregiver. Caregiving is undoubtedly full of stressful responsibilities. We listen and empathize with the family and develop a customized care plan that equips the family with the knowledge and skills to care for their loved one.

Educating Families
The Family Caregiver Education Program is thorough, interactive and provides useful tools to become the best caregiver possible. This curriculum is taught to families in the community as well as our entire staff at the Hands 4Life Assisted Living Community.

Some skills and topic we teach include:
Proper transferring/lifting techniques
Incontinence care
Bathing
Fall prevention
Alzheimer’s and dementia
With education and proper skills, the family can understand the aging process, and be equipped to care for their senior with respect and love.
